I ran across this while looking at low-key imagery on google for some fresh inspiration. I have an obsession with photographing pears and I really love the surreal yet classic style and feel. Love it!

black felt is really good but the main thing is to control the light. you want to keep the light from reaching the background and surrounding foreground areas. You can use some kind of cardboard or anything alongside the light to keep it focused on the subject. also keep the light very close to the subject. that will make you adjust exposure for the subject and cause the background to go dark. you might want to suspend the skulls above to keep the ground to keep everything else black. good luck.

Very awesome photo! I love low-key shots.

I found this page on Google because I was trying to figure out how to set up a low-key, black-and-white shot of animal skulls, except I want a black background AND foreground. Do you think I should get black felt or black cotton or something? It was great reading your process rather than just posting the picture. Very helpful.

Hey Brian! Congrats on the new logo and the blog layout. I like both of them for their clean & modern look! Well done! And about the BW being confused with "black & white"... I didn't even realize that until you pointed it out, so I think it should be alright, and either way, it still relates to photography, so I think you are good there...

And as far as figuring out all the techy stuff... Props to you! At least you're trying and the blog looks great! Keep up the awesome work!

P.S. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and commenting on my last post. It is much appreciated! =)
